Our tipster sees bookings in his Borussia Dortmund vs Manchester City betting tips for Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg

Borussia Dortmund take on Manchester City in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday hoping to overturn a 2-1 deficit.

Pep Guardiola’s side go into the game on the back of a 2-1 home defeat by Leeds United on Saturday, and will be hoping to bounce back with another strong performance in Europe.

Dortmund won 3-2 at Stuttgart on the weekend as their inconsistent season continues to take twists and turns ahead of a fixture that is arguably their biggest of the campaign to date.

Cards on the cards in Dortmund

Both teams go into the game with a good chance of qualifying and with so much at stake, tensions could run high, so yellow cards could well be on the agenda on Wednesday.

City are happy to make tactical fouls and with them holding an edge from the first match, they will be looking to stop Dortmund’s fast-paced attack at every opportunity.

The likes of Erling Haaland and Marco Reus can cause any side problems, and equally the likes of Rodri and Joao Cancelo won’t shy away from fouling their opposite numbers.

The referee for the clash is Carlos del Cerro Grande and he has shown a high number of cards in games this season, including six in his last La Liga game, plus four yellows and a red in a Europa League tie between Arsenal and Olympiacos.

We’re backing over 3.5 cards in the match when the two sides meet on Wednesday evening.

Tip: Over 3.5 cards @ 4/5 with bet365

Home side eye fast start

Dortmund will be aiming to disrupt City’s possession-based style of play when the two sides meet on Wednesday and hopefully level the aggregate scores early in the match.

In five of their last seven home matches in all competitions, including the round-of-16 match against Sevilla, Dortmund have scored in the first half.

With attackers such as Haaland, Reus and Thorgan Hazard available there’s a real possibility that the German team can get an early goal and put the pressure on the Citizens. A 1-0 win would be enough to take them through to the last four and end City’s hopes of an unprecedented quadruple.

We’re backing Dortmund to score in the first 45 minutes on Wednesday to set up a classic match.

Tip: Dortmund to score in the first half @ 11/8 with bet365

Can to fall foul of the referee

Emre Can is known to be hard-hitting in the tackle, and the Germany midfielder showed how vital he is to Dortmund in the first-leg clash at the Etihad Stadium last week.

He has been shown two yellows in his last four matches: one for Germany against North Macedonia and one in the first leg after just half an hour.

Can has picked up five yellow cards in the Bundesliga this season and two in the Champions League and we expect him to suffer the same fate when Dortmund face Man City on Wednesday.
