Nice vs Marseille build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

A statement victory if ever there was one. Nice on matchday two visited defending Ligue 1 champions Lille and inflicted a 0-4 defeat on them. It was a success made all the sweeter for Les Aiglons boss Christophe Galtier who last season guided Les Dogues to championship glory. The result was Nice’s first win of the 2021/22 season after being held to a goalless stalemate against Stade Reims on the opening weekend. This weekend’s game will be the 54th occasion Nice have hosted Marseille in the French top division and in those previous meetings they’ve won 21 times with the most recent win coming last season when they claimed a 3-0 victory.

Jorge Sampaoli’s men were unable to start the new Ligue 1 season with back-to-back wins. After their sensational comeback win at Montpellier on the opening weekend they felt the opposite against Bordeaux last time out. Seemingly cruising to a 2-0 victory over Bordeaux the visitors would peg them back — scoring twice in the span of six minutes — and the game ended all square. It nevertheless extended their unbeaten league run to four matches but across their past 14 away trips Les Olympiens have only registered two wins.

  • Nice (vs Lille): Benítez; Atal, Todibo, Dante, Bard; Boudaoui, Lemina, Rosario, Kluivert; Dolberg, Gouiri.
  • Marseille (vs Bordeaux): Mandanda; Saliba, Balerdi*, Peres; Ünder, Gueye, Kamara, De La Fuente; Gerson, Guendouzi; Payet.

The hosts come into this Sunday’s showdown missing Alexis Claude Maurice, Morgan Schneiderlin, Calvin Stengs and Alexis Trouillet all of whom are ruled out with respective injuries. Marseille meanwhile are without the suspended Leonardo Balerdi while Arkadiusz Milik continues to recover from injury and there’s doubts over Pau Lopez’s availability.

Player to watch: Kasper Dolberg (Nice)

This past European Championship saw Nice marksman Kasper Dolberg once again thrusted into the international spotlight. The 23-year-old Dane struck three goals across four appearances at Euro 2020, which included a brace against Wales at the Johan Cruyff Arena, his former stomping ground. Dolberg came into the tournament on the back of six goals in 25 league outings for The Eaglets last term. He’s already 33.3% away from matching that total after two games played this season. Having made a 27 minute cameo against Stade Reims on the opening weekend he’d score twice in their following match at champions Lille. It was the fifth time Dolberg would fall one short of registering a first hat-trick for the club.
