Formula1 70th Anniversary GP
Sunday, August 9th, 2020 – Race Time 9.10am EST
Last weekend’s Silverstone GP was absolutely bonkers, almost no action for 51 laps, in what was a very boring race; and then it all kicked off on the final lap. Heading into lap 52 we had +5 units in our pocket and 90 seconds later, when it was all said and done, we had -3 units. I won’t bore you with the details, but it was pretty crazy.
This week we race at the same circuit but under the name “70th Anniversary GP” due to it being the 70th years of F1 and the first race was held at this track. Many consider this the home of Formula1 for that reason and the fact that many teams throughout F1 history and currently have their headquarters based in the UK around this track.
As per usual this year we fully expect the Mercedes to have the pace around the Silverstone circuit. The only change to the track this week is the tire choices on offer to the teams. Last week’s tires were medium and hard, whilst this week we have soft and medium, which will no doubt force teams into a two-stop strategy. Tire issues have plagued Mercedes so far this season, especially last weekend, but they have still gone on to win every race this season. Will that all change this weekend?
Winning Driver Odds
|· Lewis Hamilton -303||· Sebastian Vettel +6600|
|· Valtteri Bottas +350||· Carlos Sainz +6600|
|· Max Verstappen +750||· Lando Norris +6600|
|· Charles Leclerc +4000||· Lance Stroll +6600|
|· Alex Albon +5000||· Niko Hulkenberg +8000|
|· Rest Of Field +50000|
There is no doubt that Mercedes are going to get another poll this weekend, Max Verstappen was the closest to poll last weekend that wasn’t driving a Mercedes and he was 1 second slower, that a LOT of time in this sport. Hamilton is clearly the fastest around this track but the Formula1 odds boards of the best sportsbooks have him set at -350 to claim pole position, should happen but not worth the risk.
His teammate Valtteri Bottas, who is set at +350 with BetOnline, will be angry with the way he was robbed of a 2nd place last week and should be trying his absolute best to beat Hamilton to pole this weekend, Pole at this track usually leads to a race win (visit our BetOnline Review).
Valtteri Bottas +350
Another driver robbed last weekend due to a tire problem was Spaniard Carlos Sainz, he was on the verge of coming in 4th position until his front left tire puncture, he ended up outside the points in 12th position. I am taking a gamble here with this bet as I do need some luck to play its part. Sainz to finish on the podium is +800 at Intertops. He has good pace around this track, but we will need one or two drivers in front of him to have some problems (visit our Intertops Review).
Carlos Sainz +800
Top 10 Finish
Our only winner last week was the top 10 finish bet were we cashed Pierre Gasly at +200, the sportsbooks have not been as generous this time around, only offering -125 on the same bet. This week I think there is super value in taking Gasly’s teammate Daniil Kvyat for a top ten finish at +300 with BetOnline. He crashed out of the race last week, which is most likely the reason for such big odds. Kvyat is a good solid driver and his crash last week appeared to be a tire puncture. I am more than happy to be sitting with a +300 ticket for Kvyat to make the top 10 (check out our BetOnline Review).
Daniil Kvyat +300
Fastest lap is always tricky, it usually depends on who can afford to come in and put fresh tires on to try for a fastest lap within the final few laps. Besides the Mercedes drivers, the best bet for the fastest lap is Verstappen or either McLaren drivers. Verstappen is +250 and both McLaren drivers are +2000 at the best sportsbooks for fastest lap.
Double Points Finish
Favorite Bet! Incredible value on both Ferrari drivers to finish inside the top ten at +100 with Intertops. I would have made this number around -130. This bet has cashed 50% of the time this season and to be honest it could have been 75% except they crashed into each other in the second race of the season.
Its hard to look beyond Hamilton, he is on fire and not even Bottas in the same car can keep up with him. Unfortunately, there is no value on the Englishman to win the race. Bottas does have a chance for pole, he has the pace over one lap but when it comes to race pace, Hamilton is just that few seconds quicker. For a fun bet, I would take Max Verstappen to win the race at +750 at BetOnline.
